Privacy Policy
The short version: Sonic Stocks lets you scan a price chart and hear and feel it. It collects the minimum needed to run the app and your subscription — no name or email, just an anonymous identifier, your purchase status, and anonymised usage statistics. We never sell your data, we show no ads, and we never track you across other companies' apps or websites.
Who we are
Sonic Stocks is made by Accessible Resources Ltd ("we", "us"), a company registered in the United Kingdom. This policy explains what happens to your information when you use the Sonic Stocks iOS application.
Data we collect
- An anonymous identifier. You do not create an account, and we never ask for your name or email. When the app first opens, it signs in anonymously through Firebase Authentication (a Google service), which issues a random identifier. We use it only to apply fair-use limits and to remember that your subscription is active. It is not tied to your real-world identity.
- Charts you scan. When you scan or choose a photo of a chart, the image is sent to our servers and to our AI provider (OpenAI) to read the shape of the line so we can play it back as sound and haptics. The image is processed to answer that one request and is not stored afterwards, is never used to train AI models, and is never used for advertising.
- Questions and explanations. When the app explains a chart or answers a question in plain English, that text is generated on our servers using OpenAI, working from real market data we license under contract. Your questions are not stored to build a profile, are not used to train AI models, and are never used for advertising.
- Purchases. Payment is processed entirely by Apple; we never see your card details. Our subscription partner RevenueCat processes your App Store receipt and a pseudonymous identifier so the app knows your subscription is active.
- Anonymised usage analytics. We record anonymised in-app events (for example, which onboarding screen someone stopped at) via PostHog so we can find and fix the places the app fails people. These events use a random analytics identifier, are not linked to your identity, and are not used for advertising.
- Accessibility preferences. Whether you chose larger text, spoken summaries, or sound and touch. These are stored on your device to configure the app for you. We treat them as sensitive: they are used for nothing else — never for analytics segments, never shared, never used to make decisions about you.
Who we share data with
We do not sell your data and we do not share it for advertising. We use a small number of trusted service providers ("subprocessors") purely to make the app work:
- Apple — processes your payment and, if you allow notifications, delivers them.
- Google (Firebase Authentication & Cloud Functions) — issues your anonymous identifier and runs our backend.
- OpenAI — reads the chart in a photo you scan and generates plain-English explanations, working only from the request in front of it.
- RevenueCat — manages your subscription status from your App Store receipt.
- PostHog — records anonymised product-usage events (hosted in the European Union).
What we never do
- No ads in the app, ever.
- We never sell your personal data, to anyone.
- We never track you across other companies' apps or websites — the app shows no App Tracking Transparency prompt because we do not do this.
- We never share your accessibility settings or your questions with advertisers or data brokers.
- We never post to your accounts or contact people on your behalf.
Notifications
If you allow notifications, they are delivered by Apple. You can turn them off at any time in iOS Settings and none will be sent.
Data retention and erasing your data
- The only data tied to your anonymous identifier is your usage counts and your subscription status. To have it erased, email us and we will delete it and confirm.
- Photos you scan and the questions you ask are processed to answer your request and are not retained by us afterwards.
- Anonymised analytics events are not linked to your identity and cannot be traced back to you.
- Records we are legally required to keep (for example, aggregated transaction reporting) are kept only as long as the law requires.
Children
Sonic Stocks is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children.
Your rights (UK GDPR)
You have the right to access, correct, export, and erase the personal data we hold about you. Because we hold only an anonymous identifier and no contact details, the fastest route is to email us and we will resolve your request within a month. You also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
Changes to this policy
If a future version of Sonic Stocks changes what happens to your data, we will update this policy and the App Store privacy label before that version ships, and note the change prominently here.
